The farming operation is in hand and run from the Estate Office. Predominantly an arable business with a four crop rotation of potatoes, winter and spring wheat and maize. The potato crop is the focus of the farming operation and is a partnership between Cadland and Whitewater Potatoes. There is a small herd of 80 cattle that are used to manage the heathland, marsh and the more marginal areas.
The main farmland block is mostly light soils. The Estate continues to invest and improve its irrigation infrastructure and has the capacity to fully irrigate the main farm area. The geographic location and proximity to the sea makes this one of the earliest harvesting farms in the country with low frost levels. The ambition is to find another high value crop to complement the potatoes and we are actively investigating options.
